The artist retreat
Do you long for a quiet place to work? Do you have a deadline?
Do you want to play an instrument and you don’t want
to disturb the neighbours?
In the heart of France in Le Berry, department Indre (named after the river that flows through it) in the triangle of the towns of Châteauroux, La Châtre and Argenton, I have a house for rent during the wintermonths.
This house is part of my private residence but it is completely independent and has its own private entrance.
Although it is close to Paris – just two hours by train- the area is not touristy at all. It is the perfect place for you to work quietly.
The house is situated in a charming region with rolling landscapes, meadows, forests, lakes, and picturesque villages.
In the attractively furnished home is a living room with a good wood burning stove, a large table and a seating with a bedsofa.
The spacious open kitchen is well equipped with a fridge, coffee maker, ceramic cooker, oven and microwave. Dishes and cookware are all provided.
Upstairs is a WC, a bright room with a comfortable seating and a desk. From this room you have access to the bathroom with shower and wash basin and to a bedroom with a double bed and a built-in large wardrobe.
In the extension downstairs behind the house you will find a washing machine, ironing board and iron. Behind the house adjacent to the kitchen is a covered terrace with seating area where you can enjoy the morning sun.
The backyard has a sprawling lawn with an impressive weeping willow in front of a ruin where behind the beautiful white French cows graze in the valley.
In front of the house is a park-like garden where you in the evening can watch the sky turn pink.
Ideal for tranquility and inspiring for artists, painters and culture lovers.
Price on request.

The surroundings
Indre has a varied landscape is very suitable for walking and cycling. The beautiful nature with for instance ”Le Val de Creuse ”(Eguzon) has picturesque villages along its shore among others the artists ‘ village Gargilesse.
The Indre was also the home of writer George Sand (1804-1876). In the village of Nohant is the family domain where she wrote her famous novels “La petite fadette” and “Les Maîtres Sonneurs”, and both novels are set in this region. Her country house was the refuge and summer residence of the great composers Chopin and Liszt and writers including Balzac, Flaubert, Turgenev and the painter Delacroix.
The castles of Lys-Saint-Georges (2 km) and of Sarzay (7km) are close by and very beautiful.
Terrace
“There is a terrace at the back of the garden where you can look out over the fields and rolling hills. I sat there writing and daydreaming, staring into the distance, without really seeing, my thoughts wandering along the horizon.”
